About Us

Just 35 miles south of the U.S. Border our 10,000 acre ranch lies nestled in the Sierra Azul mountains. The landscape includes mountains, hills, hillocks, canyons, grassland and a river runs through it providing diverse habitats that support thousands of species, many threatened or endangered.

The northernmost documented jaguar in Mexico was photographed in these canyons. Reptiles and amphibians thrive in our river and adjacent wetlands.

Nearly 200 species of birds have been photographed here and new ones are found frequently.

Views from the generous veranda of the Casa Grande include sweeping vistas and a unique eye-level surveillance of the high canopy above the Rio Cocospera. The ranch house is an ideal setting for intense corporate work sessions with no distractions, a home base for researchers or refuge after an exhausting day of birding or hiking.

Rancher, Carlos Robles Elias and his family strive to maintain the bio-region in its natural state while still operating as a functioning cattle ranch. The Casa Grande is a warm, Mediterranean/ranch style abode that will transport you back to the ranches of old Mexico. Whether you come to study, work or play, the Robles family will make your stay at El Aribabi one that you will talk about for years to come.
